Fleet Manager – Managed Fleets

About the role

The Fleet Manager will oversee daily operations of a large fleet of trucks, ensuring efficient transportation services across East and Southern Africa. The role requires real‑time monitoring, issue escalation, and strict adherence to safety and documentation standards.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate real‑time data on truck locations, status, and remarks using fleet management tools such as Smartsheet.
• Handle operational escalations, including cargo delays, breakdowns, and other issues, and communicate promptly with client liaison and stakeholders.
• Manage proof‑of‑delivery (POD) documentation, ensuring upload to the repository within 48 hours of off‑loading.
• Create and close trips for dispatched vehicles, preventing cancellations or documentation delays.
• Verify availability and functionality of required transport documents, especially after cargo dispatch.
• Raise import/export requests promptly and log IT tickets for system‑related issues.
• Enforce safety and convoy protocols, escalating risks and delays to management.
• Ensure trucks have up‑to‑date pre‑alert information for cross‑border cargo to avoid clearance penalties.

Required profile

• Proven experience in managing large vehicle fleets and daily transport operations.
• Strong ability to analyze operational data and improve fleet performance.
• Excellent communication skills for coordination with drivers, clients, and internal teams.
• Attention to detail in documentation, compliance, and safety procedures.

Required skills

• Proficiency with fleet management systems, specifically Smartsheet.
