Fitter Assistant

About the role

The Fitter Assistant provides safe and effective support to Mechanical Fitters in the installation, maintenance, inspection, repair and overhaul of mechanical equipment at Bulyanhulu Gold Mine, ensuring plant reliability and compliance with safety procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Assist fitters during planned and breakdown maintenance activities.
• Prepare and arrange tools, equipment, spares and materials required for maintenance work.
• Dismantle, clean, inspect, repair and re‑assemble mechanical equipment.
• Support installation and alignment of pumps, conveyors, crushers, screens, mills, gearboxes, valves and other plant equipment.
• Replace bearings, seals, bolts, couplings, liners, belts and other mechanical components.
• Carry out lubrication tasks as instructed and perform basic measurements and inspections.
• Handle and position components using approved lifting equipment and maintain a clean, hazard‑free work area.

Required profile

• Certificate or grade one equivalent training in Mechanical Fitting, Mechanical Engineering or a related trade.
• Basic knowledge of mechanical maintenance and hand‑ and power‑tool use.
• Understanding of workplace health and safety, LOTO and safe lifting practices.
• Ability to work shifts in a challenging industrial environment and follow instructions.
• Good communication, teamwork and housekeeping skills.
