Environmental Officer

About the role

The Environmental Officer will support effective environmental management and compliance across a large‑scale gold mining operation in Tanzania. The role involves implementing monitoring programmes, maintaining the Environmental Management System, and ensuring accurate data collection and reporting.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and maintain air, water, meteorological, noise and vibration monitoring plans across the mine site.
• Collect, analyse and submit environmental samples (water quality, dust, gaseous emissions, noise, etc.) to external laboratories.
• Maintain equipment registers, schedule calibrations, and keep calibration certificates up to date.
• Identify non‑conformances, prepare inspection reports, develop corrective action plans and track their implementation.
• Supervise environmental technicians, plan daily activities and ensure compliance with ISO 14001 and Tanzanian regulations.

Required profile

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering or a related discipline.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Tanzanian and international environmental regulatory frameworks.
• Experience with environmental monitoring programmes and data management.
• Ability to supervise staff and coordinate site‑wide environmental activities.
