Engineer 3 – Underground Mine Planning

About the role

The Engineer 3 – Underground Mine Planning will develop optimal development options for the Geita Gold Mine, produce schedules, production forecasts and budgets, and support operational execution across short‑, medium‑ and long‑term horizons.

Key responsibilities

• Develop options for the optimal development of the gold mine and produce underground schedules, forecasts and budgets.
• Support operational execution through short‑, medium‑ and long‑term underground mine planning.
• Deliver physical schedules for the underground mine with accuracy aligned to reserve confidence.
• Build organisational capability within the Mine Technical Services Department to meet budget and life‑of‑mine plans.
• Identify and evaluate resources to optimise mine development and propose step‑change process improvements.
• Authorise and oversee the creation of mine schedules prepared by the Planning Engineer II.
• Develop and maintain systems, standards, procedures and guidelines for effective and safe mine planning.
• Support Operational Excellence initiatives and drive value creation in mine scheduling.
• Ensure compliance with safety, health, environment and compliance (SHE&C) plans.
• Maintain constructive relationships with colleagues, business partners and stakeholders to resolve issues.
• Apply management and people practices, report performance against plan and rectify variances.
• Provide comprehensive handover packages covering strategic intent, design, infrastructure, production schedules, financial models, risks and mitigation strategies.
• Implement strategies to optimise delivery of mine schedules, including adoption of innovative equipment, technology and work methods.

Required profile

• Experience in underground mine planning and schedule development.
• Ability to work under the direction of the Planning Superintendent and collaborate with planning teams.
• Strong analytical skills to evaluate resources and identify productivity or cost improvements.
• Commitment to safety, compliance and continuous improvement in mining operations.
