About the role
The Drill and Blast Engineer 2 (Underground) is responsible for developing optimum drill and blast designs to support production and mining efficiency. The role includes preparing reports and stope inputs, supporting safe implementation of drill and blast activities, conducting underground inspections, and carrying out electronic firing of stopes.
Key responsibilities
- Design and optimise stopes, drilling layouts and charge plans to achieve required fragmentation, recovery and production efficiency while minimising dilution.
- Review drill and blast performance, QA/QC data, parameters and equipment to improve performance, reduce costs and support continuous improvement.
- Prepare drill and blast reports, stope notes, 3MS inputs, production reports, schedules and stope closure documentation in a timely manner.
- Support short‑term stope planning and development scheduling in line with the underground mine plan and ore feed requirements.
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, environmental and statutory requirements, participating in inspections, audits and explosive storage inspections.
Required profile
- Degree (B.Sc.) in Mining Engineering.
- Valid driving licence and blasting certificates.
- 4+ years of experience in underground drill and blast operations, preferably in a mechanised mine using long‑hole open stoping and transverse stoping methods.
- Track record of identifying and communicating safety, health and environmental issues.
- Ability to coach and train graduate and junior engineers.
Required skills
- High‑level computer literacy with mining software: Aegis, Vulcan, Datamine and Deswik.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Working knowledge of underground mining and haulage, drill design assumptions and performance optimisation.
- Good English communication and presentation skills.
