Consultant – Gender-Responsive Climate Education Framework (Dar es Salaam)

About the role

UNICEF is seeking a senior consultant to design a gender‑responsive climate education curricular framework for primary and lower‑secondary schools in Tanzania. The work will be based in Dar es Salaam with a mix of home‑based tasks and travel to ministry offices and schools.

Key responsibilities

• Develop a comprehensive curriculum framework aligned with the Tanzanian National Curriculum for primary and lower‑secondary education.
• Ensure vertical coherence by harmonising the new framework with the existing upper‑secondary framework developed by Room to Read.
• Produce pedagogical resources that integrate climate science, active learning methods and policy requirements.
• Collaborate with the Ministry of Education, curriculum agencies and multi‑stakeholder networks.
• Provide guidance on gender‑responsive approaches throughout the curriculum design.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Education, Curriculum Studies, Climate Change, Environmental Science or a related field.
• Minimum 8 years experience in Tanzania’s education sector and curriculum implementation.
• At least 5 years experience in climate‑change education and curriculum development for primary and secondary levels.
• Proven track record of developing curriculum frameworks and pedagogical resources.
• Fluency in English and Swahili; additional UN language is an asset.
