Birth Registration Officer

About the role
The Birth Registration Officer will be based in Mwanza or Tanga, Tanzania, supporting UNICEF’s rollout of digital civil registration and vital statistics (CRVS) systems. The role focuses on technical assistance, coordination, monitoring, and capacity building to ensure children and vulnerable populations obtain legal identity documents.
Key responsibilities
- Support planning and implementation of birth registration and CRVS activities in the assigned region.
- Provide technical support to local government authorities for the e‑CRVS system rollout and digitisation of paper‑based backlogs.
- Liaise with RITA, NIDA, education authorities, district administrations and other stakeholders to promote birth certificate issuance and linked identification numbers.
- Develop monitoring and evaluation tools with an emphasis on equity, inclusion and gender.
- Conduct field visits to track progress, identify bottlenecks and offer technical guidance.
- Assist with data collection, analysis, reporting and documentation of programme results.
