Assistant Consultant, Poverty and Social Protection

About the role

Oxford Policy Management (OPM) is an international development consultancy dedicated to improving lives through sustainable public‑policy change in low‑ and middle‑income countries. The Poverty and Social Protection (PSP) team is looking for an Assistant Consultant to join its permanent staff in one of OPM’s offices in India, Pakistan or Tanzania. The role will involve providing technical inputs to projects, managing project delivery and contributing to business development activities.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake literature reviews, conduct project interviews and perform data analysis for contracted PSP projects.
• Manage project budgets, work‑plans and coordinate internal and external team members to ensure high‑quality delivery.
• Lead or support small bids and commercial tenders, identifying and negotiating with experts and shaping methodological approaches.
• Support national social protection programmes and systems development, including digital platforms.
• Develop innovative techniques to better understand and respond to poverty.
• Assist in designing shock‑responsive or adaptive social protection interventions.
• Advise on improving gender equality and social inclusion through programme design.
• Contribute to capacity‑building activities for frontline workers and senior policymakers.

Required profile

• Emerging interest in poverty and social protection.
• Strong project‑management skills.
• Experience leading or substantially contributing to bids in the PSP area.
• Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
