Aquaculture Operations Manager

About the role

The Aquaculture Operations Manager will act as the right‑hand to the General Manager, overseeing all day‑to‑day farming and site activities on a remote coastal farm in Northern Pemba, Tanzania. This hands‑on position blends technical aquaculture expertise with operational leadership and community engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Lead daily broodstock, nursery and grow‑out operations, monitoring survival, growth and biomass while enforcing SOPs and biosecurity.
• Supervise, mentor and build capacity of field farming teams, serving as the communication bridge between leadership and local workforce.
• Manage site logistics—including vehicles, vessels, fuel, feed, spare parts and equipment—and ensure preventative maintenance of farming infrastructure.
• Oversee site‑level HR administration, attendance, onboarding and first‑line issue resolution.
• Control the local operating budget, petty cash and record‑keeping, translating biological outcomes into unit economics and risk metrics.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with village leaders and authorities, aligning commercial goals with community‑first and conservation values.

Required profile

• 8–10 years of hands‑on experience in aquaculture, marine farming, fisheries or animal production.
• Proven ability to manage logistics, procurement, reporting and team performance alongside biological duties.
• Full professional fluency in English and Swahili (written and spoken).
• Willingness to live and work on‑site in a remote island setting.
• Degree in Aquaculture, Marine Biology or Animal Production is strongly preferred.
