Agric Commodity Purchasing and Quality Specialist

About the role

The Agric Commodity Purchasing and Quality Specialist is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and ensuring the quality of agricultural commodities for our operations in Dar es Salaam. You will work closely with farmers, suppliers, logistics teams, and the Project Manager to secure competitive prices and maintain high standards.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and engage reliable suppliers and farmer groups; negotiate pricing, contracts, and supply terms.
• Survey commodity suppliers quarterly to compare prices and quality.
• Visit farmlands regularly to assess crop conditions and identify sourcing opportunities.
• Purchase commodities according to customer specifications and quality standards.
• Oversee cleaning, conduct pre‑purchase and pre‑shipment inspections, and inspect containers before loading.
• Collect, analyze, and update weekly market prices; provide daily price updates and market insights to the Project Manager.
• Prepare budget projections, purchase quantity requests, and comprehensive stock status reports.
• Maintain accurate documentation of transactions, supplier data, and inspection results.
• Collaborate with logistics and port operations to ensure timely dispatch and delivery.
• Support compliance with environmental, social, and safety standards in all sourcing activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Supply Chain Management, Economics or a related field.
• 3–5 years of experience in agricultural commodity sourcing, purchasing, or quality control.
• Proven experience working with farmer networks, suppliers, and export documentation.
• Valid international passport and willingness to travel on short notice.
• Residency within Temeke District, Dar es Salaam.
