Accountant Intern – 6‑Month Finance Internship

About the role

TAI is looking for a motivated Accountant Intern to join its Finance Department for a six‑month period in Dar es Salaam. The intern will support daily financial operations, ensuring accurate record‑keeping and compliance with the organization’s financial regulations.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain up‑to‑date books of accounts and financial records.
• Process payments, prepare vouchers, and verify supporting documents, budget codes and fund availability.
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and follow up on outstanding items.
• Manage petty cash book and support petty‑cash transactions.
• Process staff imprests and produce monthly reports on outstanding imprests.
• Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports, as well as project and organizational budgets.
• Record and code all financial transactions and support payroll preparation with HR.
• Verify invoices, maintain filing of financial documents and support internal and external audits.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
• Professional accounting qualification or progress toward one (preferred).
• At least 2 years of relevant accounting experience, preferably in an NGO or donor‑funded organization.
• Strong attention to detail, integrity, confidentiality and ability to work independently.

Required skills

• Bookkeeping and financial reporting.
• Budgeting and bank reconciliation.
• Proficiency with accounting software.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
