Relationship Officer – Small & Medium Enterprises

About the role

The Relationship Officer SME will acquire and manage relationships with Small and Medium Business customers for NBC, Tanzania's oldest bank. The role combines proactive sales, consultative advisory, and compliance oversight to deliver holistic financial solutions that meet both basic and complex client needs.

Key responsibilities

• Maximise client profitability by building and deepening relationships, cross‑selling a wide range of banking products, and growing the asset‑liability portfolio.
• Maintain regular face‑to‑face meetings, develop a pipeline of business opportunities, and create CRM plans for top borrowing and non‑borrowing clients.
• Provide professional client service, respond promptly to enquiries and complaints, and coordinate activities with internal departments.
• Educate customers on NBC’s products, services and procedures, and use feedback to improve offerings.
• Ensure compliance with KYC, AML, and sanctions policies, review documentation monthly, and sign off loan applications and legal documents.

Required profile

• Proven ability to acquire and manage SME client relationships in a banking environment.
• Strong understanding of business cycles and financial needs of small and medium enterprises.
• Excellent communication and consultative selling skills.
• Commitment to regulatory compliance and risk management.
