Recovery Officer – Asset Finance (Mwanza)

About the role

WATU is seeking an Asset Finance Recovery Officer to operate in Mwanza, Tanzania. The role focuses on recovering overdue asset finance payments and managing collateral for motorcycle and three‑wheeler financing customers.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and control the assigned asset finance portfolio using company software.
• Identify overdue clients in collaboration with the recovery team when phone follow‑up is ineffective.
• Prioritize collection assignments according to company policy.
• Propose handling and debt‑collection strategies to the recovery team and Head of Asset Finance Recovery.
• Use GPS tracking to locate collateral and meet clients in the field together with the customer‑care team.
• Apply effective communication tactics to persuade clients to settle overdue amounts and resume payment compliance.
• Repossess collateral after all communication attempts have failed.
• Maintain records and provide daily feedback on assignment outcomes to the Head of Asset Recovery.
• Train and share knowledge with new employees, interns or trainees.

Required profile

• Diploma in a relevant field such as finance, business administration, or a related discipline.
• Experience in asset finance recovery or debt collection.
• Familiarity with collection policies and procedures.
• Ability to work independently in the field and engage with local communities.
• Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
• Willingness to travel within the Mwanza region and use GPS technology.

Required skills

• Proficiency with GPS tracking technology.
• Ability to operate company‑specific software for portfolio monitoring.
