Import & Export Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Import & Export Manager to lead our documentation and clearance team, ensuring smooth cross‑border operations and compliance with Tanzanian regulations. The role involves overseeing SOP development, risk mitigation, and coordination with customs and government authorities. You will act as the primary liaison between local operations and China‑based management.

Key responsibilities

• Take full responsibility for internal operations of import/export documentation and clearance team.
• Establish clear division of roles and responsibilities within the team.
• Develop, implement, and enforce SOPs for import and export operations.
• Ensure compliance with Tanzania customs regulations, duties, taxes, and licensing requirements.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate risks related to customs clearance and documentation.
• Maintain strong relationships with customs authorities, port authorities, terminals, and government institutions.
• Coordinate and negotiate with external stakeholders to resolve clearance and operational issues.
• Monitor shipment and clearance progress, escalating challenges and delays to China‑based management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International Trade, Business Administration or related field.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in import and/or export operations.
• Hands‑on experience at ports, customs offices, container yards, and bonded warehouses.
• Strong risk identification, assessment, and control capabilities.
• Proven team management and leadership experience.
• Ability to work under pressure with a strong sense of responsibility and accountability.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and external relationship management skills.
• Strong negotiation skills with government authorities and external partners.
