Engagement Manager

About the role

The Engagement Manager will join The Nature Conservancy’s Nature for Water Facility (N4W) within the Resilient Watersheds Strategy. The role provides hand‑in‑hand technical assistance to local champions across Africa, helping them design and implement watershed investment programmes that improve water security.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with a Science Manager to lead place‑based projects, delivering pre‑feasibility analyses, ROI assessments and sustainable funding strategies.
• Define project scope, assemble multidisciplinary teams of internal and external experts, and manage delivery against workplans and timelines.
• Identify and engage key actors and diverse stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
• Develop financial and economic appraisals, including financial modelling, and communicate findings to varied audiences.
• Synthesize research that integrates technical, social, environmental, institutional and financial dimensions.
• Assess ecosystem‑service benefits and cost watershed investment programmes based on nature‑based solutions.
• Present outputs in stakeholder meetings, publications and conferences, and contribute to thought‑leadership materials.
• Provide mentorship and advisory support to project team members.
• Travel domestically and internationally as required (approximately 15% of time).

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, political science, international development or a related field.
• At least six years of professional experience leading complex projects or strategic initiatives in unstructured environments.
• Proven experience in commercial evaluation of business models and project structuring.
• Supervisory experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
• Willingness to work flexibly across African countries where The Nature Conservancy has an established office.
