Hydrogeological Technician – Mining Operations

About the role

The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is looking for a Hydrogeological Technician to support groundwater investigations and water management at the North Mara Gold Mine. You will work across both underground and open‑pit operations, ensuring safe and sustainable water practices.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct groundwater investigations, supervise drilling, perform aquifer tests and install piezometers.
• Develop and maintain hydrogeological models for dewatering, water‑balance forecasting and risk assessment.
• Monitor groundwater inflow, pore pressure and water‑quality data to guide operational decisions.
• Collaborate with geotechnical, mine‑planning and environmental teams for integrated water management.
• Advise on water‑related hazards such as breakthrough risk, fill saturation and slope instability.
• Maintain the Groundwater Management Plan in line with standards and regulations.
• Prepare technical reports, dashboards and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
• Support emergency response planning for water‑related incidents and mentor junior staff.
• Liaise with consultants and regulatory bodies on compliance and permitting.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Hydrogeology, Geology, Environmental Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of mining hydrogeology experience, preferably in both underground and open‑pit settings.
• Valid driving licence and ability to work underground.
• Strong communication skills and a commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.

Required skills

• Proficiency with groundwater modelling software such as MODFLOW and FEFLOW.
• Experience using data‑analysis tools.
• Familiarity with instrumentation: piezometers, VWPs and water‑level loggers.
• Understanding of mine dewatering systems and water‑risk mitigation.
